Spring is around the corner and that means wedding season is in. We are excited to begin a new series of Birmingham brides and weddings. There are many unique and beautiful venues to choose from in the city, and we want to share with you what other Birmingham brides are doing.

Our first feature is of a multicultural wedding featuring Darshika and Matthew. “The wedding was the perfect blend of American and Indian tradition and celebration! The photography style followed suit of the ceremonies with a beautiful dance of candids and portraits. A peacock inspired color pallet, delicately beaded gowns, sapphire studded ring set, and the golden rays of the sun made for an elegant day, ” said Becca Bell of 2b Photography.

BareSkin Foundation

July 27, 2014

bareminerals pic

Like most of you, I am a product junkie-always looking for the perfect product for my skin. When Bare Mineral’s announced their liquid foundation, I was immediately intrigued and excited to try! I normally use Urban Decay’s Naked foundation, but I went to Ulta with high hopes because of the brand’s reputation and the fact that it’s cheaper. I purchased the product and hurried home to try it. I bought Bare Linen 03 (seems to be the most popular shade). I skipped buying the brush and stuck to my MAC stippling one. Here’s my review!

bareskin1

Pros:
Super easy application
Requires only 2-3 small drops
Sheer but perfect coverage
Staying power
Very light on skin-hence “bareSkin”
Cheaper than other department store foundations ($29)
SPF 20

Cons:
The brush is a bit pricey ($28). I think the brush that was designed for bareSkin is better than my trusty MAC stippling brush due to it’s very light and liquid consistency. I will probably go back and purchase the brush.
It’s so sheer and used such a small amount that I have trouble knowing if it’s on my skin and if it is fully covering (but it is!).

Overall, I give this foundation two thumbs up! Go get it now and look flawless!

Beauty Talk: Tinted Moisturizers

March 26, 2014
Multitasking Makeup
The multitasking makeup: tinted moisturizers! They hydrate, provide coverage, illuminate and protect your skin. If you aren’t a huge fan of liquid foundations or powders but want some light coverage or color, the tinted moisturizer is for you.

1. Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer $43- hint of color, light coverage and super easy application. Equipped with SPF 20, this moisturizer leaves a beautiful, dewy complexion while providing protection from the sun!

2. MAC Studio Moisture Tint $32- this is my ultimate favorite! This tinted moisturizer provides a little more color and a little more coverage than the Laura Mercier. It lasts all day, feels weightless on and provides a flawless complexion! MAC never ceases to amaze me.

3. NARS Tinted Moisturizer $42- NARS can’t go wrong! This moisturizer provides a broad spectrum SPF 30 while flawlessly radiating skin when applied! This is perfect if you are wanting sheer coverage and a dewy glow!

Lancome vs. Lumene

February 21, 2014

skimpor splurgeeyemakeupremoverI fell in love with Lancome’s Bi-Facil eye makeup remover- it is pure magic! Gentle on the eyes, this oil-free solution gets rid of even the most stubborn waterproof mascara.

I then stumbled upon Lumene’s formula in Ulta. It looked the same-blue bottle, solution separation (looks like when oil and water mix), so I grabbed it on a whim. I was pretty pumped about the cheap cost, too. That night, I used it.  It felt and worked nearly identical to Lancome.

Both are ophthalmologist tested, oil free and great for sensitive eyes and those who wear contacts. Either one you choose, you can’t go wrong. Lancome will always be my favorite, but knowing Lumene exists now makes it hard to justify spending $28 when one works just as well for 1/4 of the price!

Editor Picks: A Lasting Kiss

February 9, 2014

A Lasting Kiss

Excited about that perfect kiss but afraid of smearing your lipstick all over him? These four picks are the Editor’s favorite!

1. Lip Tar by OCC- $18 at Sephora
Great thick consistency, lasts for ours and creates a juicy pout!
2. Revlon’s Just Bitten Kissable- $8.99 at drugstores
This is their Just Bitten counterpart. This provides an easier, smoother application. The hues are soft and beautiful providing lasting color!
3. Kat Von D Everlasting Love Liquid- $20 at Sephora
OMG. This is hands-down my favorite lasting lipstick. The pigment is out of this world and it has MAJOR staying power! Amazing!
4. Benefit’s PosieTint- $30 at Ulta/Sephora
The application isn’t as easy as others, but we love the flushed stain it provides for not only lips, but cheeks! We love the fragrance, too!

Beauty Talk: Vichy Cleanser

January 15, 2014

Vichy__38713.1353351402.1280.1280

I’m a product junkie- tried and true; confessed and accepted! I love beauty products and am always seeking the best. I’ve come across an amazing cleanser at Ulta that I have completely fallen in love with- Purete Thermale 3-in-1 Cleanser by Vichy.

Vichy is a region in France known for its healing thermal waters dating back to the 1600s. Royalty would often visit for dermatological treatments becoming a destination for the elite. In 1903, Coco Chanel was a “water girl” for Vichy before she ventured into the fashion world. The Vichy Brand of 80 years have encompassed the essence of this region creating state-of-the-art skincare.

Purete Thermale 3-in-1 cleanser is a cleansing milk, toner and makeup remover all in one. Free of parabens, dyes and harsh sulfates, this cleanser is perfect for all skin types-even sensitive. Although the directions state you can just apply with a cotton ball and no rinsing is needed, I can’t stand the thought of leaving anything on my skin. Cleansing is the art of rinsing away impurities, right? So I apply, massage in and rinse.

V2

This cleanser is amazing! It really does remove even the hardest waterproof mascara and lip-stains while leaving my skin soft, clean and supple (thanks to the generous amount of vitamins and thermal water).  I highly recommend this product.

If $19.50 sounds costly for a cleanser, just think about this: you don’t need to buy makeup remover or toner. So, in reality, this cleanser is a smart choice for everyone. You won’t be disappointed!
